The AliasBOSS is an alias file management utility. This program supercedes (and greatly enhances the functionality of ) an earlier upload entitled scanAPPL. There is not a lot of documentation here, but the program itself has lots o balloon help to assist you in using it.
Basically, the AliasBOSS allows you to create, validate, move, and delete alias files.
It provides a drag and drop feature by which you can drag any icon of a file and thus create an alias, or, by pressing the shift key while dropping a volume or disk icon you can scan for files of your selected filetype or, finally, by pressing and holding the option key while dropping you can scan a volume for aliases. (All of these scanning features are also accessed by selected 'New Scan' from the AliasBOSS File menu.)
When you scan, the AliasBOSS presents a list of the files which match the criteria you specified in a window that is organized alphabetically. You can move around the list by scrolling via the scroll bar or using the up, down, page up, page down, or home and end keys on the keyboard (provided, of course, you have these keys available to you).
Each window contains several buttons which implement the basic features of the AliasBOSS. Such buttons as 'Save Alias', 'Erase Alias', 'Validate Alias', and 'Info' are available. Operations can also be performed en masse, that is, you can validate all aliases in a particular list by selected 'Validate All' from the Alias menu. Aliases can also be moved in aggregate via the 'Move All' item in the Alias menu.
That's basically all there is to it. I created the AliasBOSS over a coupla months in my spare time (?) because, although it might exist, I have not seen a utility that is comprehensive in it's treatment of alias files. Although there could probably be many improvements where the AliasBOSS is concerned (and I shall endeavor to effect them), I believe it is an extremely useful utility for alias power users.
NOTE: This application has been tested on a Macintosh LC, in 32 bit mode and not in 32 bit mode, as well as a Mac IIsi, IIci, and IIci with a Radius Rocket installed. That is not to say that there aren't any bugs, which is why I kindly request notification of any which (much to my dismay) might appear.
NOTE ALSO: I am politely requesting 15 US dollars for the use of this program. Although I normally would post most of these little utilities as freeware, I have put a great deal of time into the AliasBOSS and, although just to have it do what it is advertised to do is reward enough, a little compensation would be 'icing on the cake'.
